Sorbitan monostearate is an organic compound with the formula C24H46O6. Pure product is cream-yellow flake or brown-yellow wax. Non-toxic. The relative density is 0.98~1.03. Insoluble in cold water, glycerin, ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, paraffin oil, soybean oil and lard. It forms a gel in hot water, disperses in hot glycerol, and is cloudy in hot xylene. It is a non-ionic surfactant. It is an oil-in-water emulsifier. The oral LD50 of the mice was > 15000 mg/kg, and the ADI value was 0-25 mg/kg. It is formed by esterification of stearic acid and sorbitol in the presence of sodium hydroxide, and then bleached and sliced [1]. It is used as emulsifier and defoamer in pesticide, plastic, cosmetics, medicine, coating, textile, food and other industries.
